Plant Description:

Euphorbia pulcherrima, commonly known as the poinsettia, is a flowering plant native to Mexico. It is named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Minister to Mexico, who introduced the plant to the United States in the 1820s. The poinsettia is popular as a holiday plant, with its bright red and green foliage, and it is often used as a Christmas decoration. The poinsettia's "flowers" are actually small, yellow structures called cyathia, which are surrounded by brightly colored bracts. The bracts are often red, but can also be pink, white, or yellow. The poinsettia is a relatively easy plant to care for and it can thrive in a variety of conditions. It prefers bright, indirect sunlight and well-draining soil, and it should be watered when the soil is dry to the touch. To keep your poinsettia healthy, avoid overwatering and keep it in a cool location away from drafts. The Tukai Marble Light cultivar of Euphorbia pulcherrima is a newer variety with variegated, cream and green foliage. It is a relatively new cultivar and information about its specific care requirements may be limited. In general, the care requirements for this cultivar should be similar to those for standard poinsettias.

Growing tips:

  • Fertilizer: Poinsettias do not require a lot of fertilization. During the growing season (spring and summer), you can fertilize your plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer according to the manufacturer's instructions. Avoid fertilizing during the fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

  • Pruning: Poinsettias can become leggy and lose their compact shape over time. To encourage new growth and maintain a full, bushy appearance, you can prune your poinsettia by cutting back the stems to about 6 inches above the soil line in the spring.

  • Repotting: Poinsettias do not require frequent repotting. If you do need to repot your plant, choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one and use a well-draining potting mix. Repotting is best done in the spring, after the plant has finished blooming.

I hope this information is helpful! Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Brightening up a space: The variegated, cream and green foliage of the Tukai Marble Light cultivar can add a splash of color to a room and brighten up a space.
