Plant Description:

- Origin - C. and S.America
- Height - up to 10 m
- Evergreen flowering or fruiting tree.
- Flowering - spring to autumn
- B argentea forms a dense, conical crown of short stemmed, paired, wavy edged leaves.
- The fruit is a broadly ovoid drupe tipped with a short, fused style.
- It has a very thin skin and a sticky, dense pulp that is sometimes compared to a cooked sweet potato.
- Apart from being a very attractive evergreen tree, it is equally desirable for its ornamental blooms and fruit that are borne freely for most of the year.
- The fruit are popular in their regions where they are eaten out of hand or made into milkshakes.
